Exploring trends in web and branding

What info do you require before beginning a naming project?

Hi everyone...

I'm attempting to find out how those responsible for naming companies, products, services, events, features and /or destinations begin the naming process. Specifically...

Do you use some type of fill-in-the-blanks document that you request the originator of the naming project to complete for you?

Or do you request a meeting with them and then go over some pre-determined questions you wish them to answer?

What type of information do you generally believe is neccessary before beginning a naming project?

What types of existing documents do you request before beginning a project?

Do you establish naming criteria before beginning an assignment?

hi Martin
I´d like to help you with your questions.
First of all , Im a brander and Naming worker for several years. The Brand Naming process is a project , and has to obay some order. There are several methodologies about how to construct a Name, from a very simple to a very sophisticated one. But for sure, all of them start with a briefing, where we can find all the elements that integrate the soul of Brand Name.
In my very own project, I can use the both sistems, you´ve mentioned, depends on the client. First of all, I use a questionaire, second a meeting( nowadays a skype o msn one). The informations I believe necessary are: the values from the name`s user(company, person, product), the themes about the communication with the recivers (target, public,) and the territory(place, culture etc) hat the communication will happen . The naming criteria already exists, and I believe they come from the environment, the market, the cultures. Everything changes always.
